About Restoring Justice
Restoring Justice is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization offering loving and holistic criminal defense legal services for the oppressed, the forgotten, and the poor. This is made possible by connecting donors to those individuals in need of these legal services.
Restoring Justice strives to give hope in one of the most hopeless places in society - the criminal justice system. Individuals facing pending criminal charges are often lost, and when they are poor, their position is too often hopeless. The current system in Houston providing appointed counsel leads to the destruction of civil rights, and ultimately the dehumanization of each person behind case files. Further, most appointed defense attorneys are overloaded and not provided the resources for adequate, effective representation. Our services will bring humanity and love back into this emotional, people-driven system. We focus on the following:
Provide holistic legal defense to the indigent (those unable to afford an attorney) from their entry into the system to a transformation towards freedom in their lives;
Educate the advantaged to the realities of our criminal system: the excessive and vengeful punitive measures that are disproportionately applied to the poor and people of color.
Provide opportunities for restorative justice to take place through redemption and reconciliation whether that involves improved access to family, community resources, social services, psychological trauma healing, or other assistance.
Our mission is to pursue Christ’s Justice. Our vision is that the criminal justice system acknowledges, respects and upholds Constitutional rights and dignity for each and every human.
